Compatibility between Chamilo 1.11.x and Chamilo 2

Hello there,

How compatible are Chamilo 1.11.x and Chamilo 2.0 in terms of course import? I’ve tried importing my courses into Chamilo 2, but for most of them it doesn't work. Is a one-to-one import not possible?

We've made considerable efforts to ensure you can export courses from Chamilo 1 and import them into Chamilo 2, but those efforts have followed a sequential improvement process, so the latest version of Chamilo 2 (currently RC3) should work well.
What doesn't in your experience, and would it be possible for you to share a (dumbed-down) export format from C1 where you have contents that do not import into C2?

Exporting from C2 and importing them into C1 will be more of a challenge, because we're not really aiming for that. C2 now uses the Moodle course export format (mbz), for increased interoperability, when generating an export, and thus natively imports Moodle backups as well. And C1 does reasonable Moodle backups imports as well, but we haven't done any specific testing on that workflow.

Putting @christianbeeznest in the loop here, as he's been in charge of the course backup import in C2.

I think the migration @lonesomewalker is talking about is the migration of the whole Chamilo installation, which indeed requires 2 separate installations for the time of the migration (after that, if you're OK with the migrated C2, you can drop your C1).
We've also done a lot of testing on migrating Chamilo 1 platforms to Chamilo 2, but we are going the path of not guaranteeing a perfect migration for 2.0 stable (we would have to wait for us to get some more community feedback and fix possible issues for v2.1 in a few months).
We are releasing Chamilo 2.0 stable this week (we're actually just testing the last processes before wrapping up), so your feedback on imports from Chamilo 1.11 would be useful only if you can provide us very quickly with more information (we have a meeting this Tuesday and if nothing unplanned pops up, I'll be tagging 2.0 stable a few hours later).

I'm interfering, as Moodle is not reallly SCORM compliant (it uses a plugin to accept SCORM packages).
Does it mean that Chamilo will loose its SCORM 1.2 and 2004 compatibility, which would be a major regression...
I hope I missunderstood Yannick's messages as this would be hard to try to implement Chamilo in companies (most are using authoring tools such as Storyline).
This being said I will be more than happy to test Chamilo 2.

@Coursenligne Chamilo 2 does not change its behaviour towards SCORM 1.2 (SCORM 2004 was never officially supported). You can still import it from the learning path tool.

I'm talking about the whole course backups (documents, tests, etc), as it was in Chamilo 1. Now in Chamilo 2 we just export course backups in the Moodle format.

It makes more sense to follow another pseudo-standard for that than to maintain our own specific format, as our format has nothing particularly ingenious about it - I'm not saying Moodle does, but if we want to make it easy for people to test different Open Source LMSes, I believe we have to make it easy for them, and this is one way to do that.

2004 was only commented in a php file ;)
But you're right, it wasn't official.
I hope one day export will be autonomous as most SCORM packages are.
I'm looking forward to testing this new version....
