Spec: A virtual machine on openstack.cern.ch and attach a 1TB volume to it for hosting sqlite files. This virtual machine needs to run the cvmfs-server tools and a standard web server, and it needs a firewall opening for web traffic coming from outside CERN.

@tiborsimko tiborsimko added this to the v1.1 milestone Nov 13, 2014

I assume the milestone means this isn't intended to be ready for this week's release?

I should add that I already have a machine ready for this purpose, but I don't have access to an OpenStack project with that amount of volume storage.

@verdurin No, this will have to come only later. The storage will be likely done via EOS, since 1TB is quite large indeed.

What's the status of this? @tiborsimko @TimSmithCH can you confirm that the DB files were already uploaded to EOS and in principle available for you?

@verdurin @katilp We had tested EOS mounting, seems OK. Is read access enough for SQLite files?
As for the VM, (1) is naked OpenStack enough, would you provision it with CVMFS and friends yourself? (2) Alternatively do you have some Puppet profile that could be used?

@tiborsimko As of last Friday I'm no longer working on this (I've changed jobs). Read access is sufficient for the conditions database files. I didn't do any more work on provisioning it myself because I understood that a proper service would be provided by CERN-IT.

Just for record from an earlier e-mail exchange: the db files were uploaded to eos by Andreas
Pfeiffer on Sept, 2, 2014:

[pfeiffer@lxplus0021 ~]$ eos cp /afs/cern.ch/cms/DB/conddb/GTtarballs/GR_R_42_V25-cmssw4.2.8.tgz root://eospublic//eos/opendata/cms/upload/GR_R_42_V25-cmssw4.2.8.tgz
[eos-cp] going to copy 1 files and 35.15 GB

[eoscp] GR_R_42_V25-cmssw4.2.8.tgz Total 33524.26 MB |====================| 100.00 % [29.4 MB/s]
[eos-cp] copied 1/1 files and 35.15 GB in 1195.29 seconds with 29.41 MB/s

[pfeiffer@lxplus0021 ~]$ eos root://eospublic.cern.ch ls -al /eos/opendata/cms/upload/.
drwxr-sr-+ 2 root root 0 Aug 29 14:21 .
drwxr-sr-+ 3 root root 2 May 13 11:37 ..
-rw-r--r-- 2 pfeiffer zh 35152737806 Sep 02 13:33 GR_R_42_V25-cmssw4.2.8.tgz
