Backlinks sections in notes

Christian Davén edited this page Oct 12, 2021 · 4 revisions

NoteExplorer can collect incoming links from other notes, and list these in a "backlinks" section:

noteexplorer . update-backlinks

By default it puts all backlinks at the end of every note, below a ## Links to this note heading (see the --backlinks-heading option). An example:

# An unexpected journey

This is a story of long ago ...

## Links to this note

- [[The Fellowship of the Ring]]

You can continue writing the note below these backlinks, or move the section further up, if you wish. The next time you run update-backlinks, the backlinks will be updated in-place, right after the heading.

Pandoc Export

If you export your notes to HTML or PDF via Pandoc, you may want to style the backlinks section differently. You can e.g. add a HTML id or class to the heading, and exempt it from numbering or the table of contents.

An example heading could be ## Links to this note {#backlinks .unnumbered}. Read more in the Pandoc manual.
