More flexibility removing items in UI

simple feature request

One of the biggest strengths of this plugin in my opinion is its workflow agnosticism. The way you have given us the features and allowed us to choose the ones right for our tasks workflow is what makes this plugin so good - that’s why I would love the options to remove any of the nonessential fields from the task creation / editing UI.

I personally rarely touch contexts, subtasks, title, tags, time estimates, blocked by or blocking (or some of the icons in the collapsed view) and which makes a lot of visual mess and adds time/friction to my workflow. I’m sure others have different combinations of parameters they use, so the option to toggle some of these off and on would be amazing.

I agree with this; I don't use all of them, such as created time. Allowing us to toggle some of these off will help keep properties clean and relevant for each user.

I spent a bit of time looking at the CSS to see if I could use a snippet to hide the Create/Edit UI elements I didn't want to see, but I couldn't see a way to do it.

A way to slim down that UI is needed.

I'll disagree with the OP. Create New Task interface right out of the gate is extremely minimal. I mean I don't see how you can make it more minimal. Use natural language and you don't have to pots around with anything. The extra fields are available by clicking the arrow to expand the form. This is great UI design.

I rather more work is spent on polishing what is already there. For instance:

• various dates are not really well visible when you edit the task. You have to hover over the little icons to see it.
• date pickers, when you select a date/time do not close. They stay open.
• ctrl+enter is not implemented in all forms. It works in task creation, not in task editing.

Not sure it is ever a good idea to have dialog boxes that are bigger than the screen. The issue is that I'm sure great features will be added to this greatest of plugins as time progresses -- so the issue is going to need to be handled at some point.

I am not sure we are on the same page. I am not advocating for bigger dialog boxes. You are correct they should be more or less minimal. I am simply saying only the dates should be reworked a bit so that when you edit a task, you can see the dates. From UI design perspective, to rely on hover caption to convey crucial info such as due and scheduled dates is not great. Otherwise I like the design of the pop up form quite a bit, minus the few bugs which I am sure will be ironed out. Cheers

Agree. I realise my desire to slim down the "detailed dialog" was due to my lack of knowledge of the extent of the natural language capabilities. To help with that I'd like to make a small suggestion re the natural language placeholder prompt, which is currently:

Buy groceries tomorrow at 3pm @home #errands

Add details here...

My issue is it doesn't explain what the @ and # symbols mean, and it doesn't include projects.

How about changing it to:

Buy groceries tomorrow at 3pm 
@context #tag +project
Add details here...
