I use Make.md, which allows you to specify properties that should appear on new notes within a "space." These are created automatically for me whenever a new note/task lands in that folder. You could do the same, I guess, with a template. I did notice, however, that when importing notes from an outside source (say, a script that converts a mail message to an MD file), the file does need "createdDate" in order to be picked up by TaskNotes.
