How do I automatically resize a Surface to fit its content?

Surface doesn't appear to behave like a View in that it doesn't automatically resize to fit its content. Instead you need to explicitly set its width. Ideally I would like to set a maxWidth and otherwise have the Surface behave like a View and fit its content.
