The brand-new PocketBook Color features a v6 firmware, for which Coolreader needs to be adapted (I assume). Using the "5" version following the instructions in the readme does not work at all, the application never even shows up on the eReader.

It works for me. Long press the book and select "Open with" and then Cool Reader

My apologies for this taking so long, but I just re-tried it. First, I updated to the latest firmware version 6.5.1684 on an otherwise clean PocketBook InkPad Color 7.8" (which I upgraded to, coming from the original 6" PocketBook Color).

Now I understand this is no longer the same device, but the behavior was the same. I copied over the system/ directory to the reader's root, then unmounted it from my PC and restarted it. Yet, I cannot launch Cooleader at all. Doesn't show up on long press either.

I can try the original PocketBook Color as well if required, as it's still in my possession as well.

Did you add Cool reader to the system/config/extensions.cfg?
For example:
epub:@EPUB_file:(some other apps),cr3-pb.app:ICON_EPUB
It is not added to the applications folder because this version does not have a file browser yet, so it would just give you an error message that the file to open is missing.
