Steps To Reproduce

  1. Change "Show autofill menu on form fields" to an option other than the default "When field is selected (on focus)".
  2. Update the Bitwarden browser extension.
  3. Check the "Show autofill menu on form fields" setting.

Expected Result

I would expect the Bitwarden browser extension to retain the users setting so I don't have to change the setting back to "Off" after each Bitwarden browser extension update.

Actual Result

"Show autofill menu on form fields" resets back to the default setting of "When field is selected (on focus)" after an update.

Hm, looking through that other issue, I’m not sure if this is the same. That issue seems to be referring to an issue with this feature not working. This issue I created is about the setting reverting to the default setting and not retaining the user setting after an update.

Agreed, this is not the same as #10814

@shred86 are other settings persisting between updates?

@micahblut This is the only setting I change so I haven’t been able to assess other settings. However, other users have confirmed this issue on the Bitwarden subreddit. I can try changing another setting to see if it reverts back to defaults the next time I get an update.

Hi, I confirm this issue also exists on

Bitwarden Extension 2024.9.1
Firefox 131.0
Windows Version 10.0.22631.4249

I also experience it on Chrome (recent version) on Windows.

Reinstalling the extension did not help.

+1 for me on macOS 14.7, Safari 18.0, Bitwarden Extension 2024.9.1 (though has been the case for months--can't say exactly).

I experience this precise behavior. I turn off Autofill after every new update because the update reverts it to the default behavior.

It appears that other settings do persist--e.g., "Ask to Save/Use Passkey" and Appearance settings.

I have a similar but worse situation. I have tried uninstalling the extension and reinstalling, get the same behavior.

I can set "Show autofill menu on form fields" to "off", but it does not honor the setting. Forms auto expand password options when set to "off". The only way I can prevent this behavior is by setting to "when autofill icon is selected". But this leaves the autofill icon inside the form still which I do not want.

I don't see this behavior on edge/brave browser, only firefox.

Bitwarden Firefox Extension v2024.9.1. Granted the chromium browsers are on a newer version, the newer version isn't available for firefox.

I noticed the same bug that the "off" option doesn't change anything in firefox. I would suggest to open a seperate Issue for that. An than I maybe look into this bug.
