Contributing to basically Sorter

Basically Technologies LLC develops and distributes the basically Sorter as kits and assembled units.

License Agreement

By contributing to this project, you agree that your contributions will be licensed under the same licenses as the project:

  • Hardware (CAD files, BOMs, schematics, mechanical designs): CC BY-NC-SA 4.0
  • Software (all code including firmware, host software, and web interfaces): MIT License + Commons Clause
  • Documentation (guides, images, videos, written content): CC BY-NC-SA 4.0

This applies to all versions of the basically Sorter project (V1, V2, and beyond).

What This Means

  • You retain copyright to your contributions
  • Your contributions can be used for non-commercial purposes by anyone
  • Commercial use requires a separate license from Basically Technologies LLC
  • Your contributions become part of the source-available basically Sorter project

Non-Commercial vs Commercial Use

Non-commercial use of design files (free):

  • Use design files to build Sorters for personal projects
  • Use design files for educational purposes
  • Use design files for research and development

Commercial use of design files (requires license):

  • Use design files to manufacture Sorters for sale
  • Modify designs and manufacture products for sale
  • Distribute design files for commercial purposes

Important: Purchased Products If you purchase a basically Sorter from Basically Technologies LLC or an authorized distributor, you may use that physical unit for any purpose, including commercial use. The non-commercial restriction applies only to the design files, not to products you legally purchase.

  • Design improvements and suggestions
  • Documentation improvements
  • Community support and discussions
