[RFC]: Amplify Chatbot UI Component Refactor

This issue is a Request For Comments (RFC). It is intended to elicit community feedback regarding a proposed change to the Amplify JS UI components. Please feel free to post comments or questions here.

Background

As part of Amplify UI components refactor phase 2, we are introducing a refactored chatbot UI.

Previous Chatbot UI Problems

• Lack of feature-parity across frameworks
• Divergent design patterns
• Limited customizability of component
• Lack of responsive design
  • User actions disabled when bot is speaking
  • App state displayed through words instead of visual cues
• Outdated audio processing file
  • Strict content security policy violation: aws-amplify-angular cannot be used with strict Content Security Policy #5024

Proposed Solution

Milestone 1 (Done)

For this milestone, we bring the new Chatbot to feature parity with the existing component while fixing the design issues mentioned above. New component utilizes web component and css variables for flexible customization options. We alleviate the aforementioned responsive design and security concerns in this milestone.

Milestone 2

In this milestone, we will accept customer feedbacks to improve upon the refactored UI component. Please feel free to give us any feature request or suggestions in this post!

Milestone 1 of the Chatbot refactor is currently released in latest aws-amplify. Please see the documentation to get started.
