More info

I have not changed any of the CSS, layouts, or related files.
I just manually merged with the main template repo for those related files to make sure that this isn't an issue that was already corrected.
Files merged:
_includes
_layouts
_plugins
_sass
.devcontainer
.github
assets/css
assets/fonts
assets/css
assets/jupyter
assets/webfonts
bin

Nothing was corrected (related to my issue) after merging these changes.

Problem solved. After much trial and error, I realized that the location heading in the resume.json file was causing the issue. There is not even a "location" heading in the json resume schema, so I have no clue why the tool I used to generate my initial resume.json included that as a heading.
Removed location heading and everything is working as it should.
