Breaking changes

openSSL will be updated to the version 3.x across all the Windows hosted runners.

Target date

The propagation will start on January, 9th and take 2-3 days.

The motivation for the changes

We would like to provide images with the latest stable version of the package.

Possible impact

if you use OpenSSL 1.1.1.x your builds can be broken.

Platforms affected

  • Azure DevOps
  • GitHub Actions

Runner images affected

  • Ubuntu 18.04
  • Ubuntu 20.04
  • Ubuntu 22.04
  • macOS 11
  • macOS 12
  • Windows Server 2019
  • Windows Server 2022

Mitigation ways

Nothing specific is required. If you need to have an older version of OpenSSL to be installed you may use a package manager of your choice.

Cancel this as openssl-3.x breaks lots of azure tasks
