Is Parts folder/group still required as the Parts database?

The New Assembly icon creates the Part Group and the Assembly itself. But I saw that when inserting Part into the Assembly it finds and adds parts outside of the Part Group too.

Is this a bug or a feature?

It's a feature. This was necessary some time ago when App::Link was new, but the corresponding bug seems to have been corrected.

Should the Parts group/folder be removed ?

I don't know. Just wanted to check if this was a bug or not.

But now, since everything in the tree can be Assembled (and also accessible from other files) it could be interesting to have a folder that is just for local use. So parts inside of it can be used in the Local Assembly but not on the other files.

Something like this:

• Parts (could still be there, to help user be organize his project)
• Private Parts / Local Parts (could be a folder to keep Parts for Local use only)

In the latest dev branch I've removed that folder by default. Ideally it would be an option in the preferences ... which I've not managed to implement
