RailDriver version 1.0.0 is set to be released on the 18th of August, 2023.
This has been a long road, since I started this project on 17th of October, 2022.
I had several previous ideas that were precursors to RailDriver that involved using PID control loops to operate locomotives in Garry's Mod. One of my original ideas was from 2017, back when I had zero understanding of control theory. Since then, I have learned a lot & got to a point where I decided to revisit that idea in October of 2022. Thus, RailDriver was born.
RailDriver has presented some very unique challenges along the way, plus implementing modern features (such as giving the E2 chip the ability to update itself via in-game chat commands) was not easy. Then, there's Wiremod's deprecation of the old
clk
functions, which has prompted me to re-factor RailDriver to use the newer event handlers. In my experiences, those things what present the biggest challenges & steepest of learning curves are the ones what yield the greatest benefits & rewards. By the time August comes around, I will have the first official release out the door & into the community, where users will be able to submit feedback & I will go from there. Because... in truth... I can only do so much on my own, & without community feedback, I can only make assumptions about what to do with RailDriver.
For those that have already joined in on the early stages of development & submitted feedback already... thank you very much. That means the world to me.
