Anki officially deprecated Anki 2.0, and published that:

From Jan 1 2020, Anki 2.0 will no longer be able to sync or download add-ons from AnkiWeb.

https://apps.ankiweb.net/

Therefore there is no more meaning in maintaining compatibility to it.
