Open in existing split if available, if not, split the window

Is there a way I can make the REPL always open on the right, i.e.:
if there is already a vertical split, open the REPL there. If there is no vertical split, create one
Right now I use:

repl_open_cmd = view.split.vertical.botright(
          0.40,
          {winfixwidth = false, winfixheight = false, number = true}
        )

but that opens a third split if I already have two.
