ts-node vs node --loader

For the very same env setup including package.json, node_modules state, source code etc.
Just running consequently

ts-node src

works well
Still

node --loader ts-node/esm src

fails with SyntaxError: Cannot use import statement outside a module

So what is really the difference among both calls under the hood.
And how to extend --loader case to work exactly direct ts-node does?

It would be really interesting to get know the answer for original issue.

Still for my personal case (node v21.7.3) I came up using tsx instead which works perfectly for now.

node --loader tsx src
