Apply UI selection mechanism from HDX

Is it possible to apply the (Region + system) selection from HDX to the site?

substring match for region name, system name, region code, system code, country name,...

I would like to add that kind of thing to the new findroute, where the match would be based on the route name or list name, most likely, to choose an individual route to bring up in showroute.

What would it be matching in other contexts?

One downside of the mechanism in HDX is that it's based on a library called typeahead from Twitter that seems no longer to be maintained.

I don't get what you mean. It just matches substrings of whatever context.

I also like the idea of combining names + codes in one "string" so that the user can type whatever s/he prefers.

So you mean have that everywhere we select a region, system, country, etc. as an alternate mechanism to find the selection you want? I very much support that.
