I'm told that the FM chip in both the Teenage Engineering OP-1 and the Buchla 272e is the Silicon Labs Si4702 http://uk.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Silicon-Labs/Si4702-C19-GM/?qs=JiL6vA75y8N8IR2LBUYDsA%3D%3D
£8 per unit, but those are a pretty good heritage, and it is still in production.
