(Discussion) Multi Currency Invoicing/Payments

Currently all invoices in BHIMA are made in the Enterprises currency.

If a patient comes to pay in a currency other than the Enterprise currency the cash window module exchanges that currency based on the exchange rate of the current day. With this system BHIMA is not able to provide receipts in different currencies, only a cost in other currencies at the date of printing the receipt.

To support invoicing clients/ patients in a currency of their choosing would provide a number of benefits:

• Allow guaranteed prices in a currency of the clients choosing - what is on the invoice will always be respected by the enterprise at the date of invoice
• Allow pinning prices in any currency as once an invoice is made the currency does not change
• Enable hospitals that allow clients to pay in their own currency to track gain/ loss on exchange over time and adjust prices accordingly

Restrictions on invoicing in multiple currencies:

• A payment made in an specific currency must be paid in that currency, paying in anything else would require very complicated rules and could be easily manipulated.

Requirements:

• Lookup and respect invoice dates exchange rate regardless of current exchange rate
• Reports on gain/ loss on exchange
• Clear user experience for invoice/ cash window modules
