Checklist

  • I made sure that there are no existing issues - open or closed - which I could contribute my information to.
  • I have read the FAQ and my problem isn't listed.
  • I'm aware that this is a request for NewPipe itself and that requests for adding a new service need to be made at NewPipeExtractor.
  • I have taken the time to fill in all the required details. I understand that the feature request will be dismissed otherwise.
  • This issue contains only one feature request.
  • I have read and understood the contribution guidelines.

Feature description

Just before I made this feature request topic, I accidently found out that "https://web.archive.org/" has some videos from youtube that youtube has removed from it's own web site sometime after a video was archived at "https://web.archive.org/". I have not found any way for NewPipe to either find or download such files from there, so I request that NewPipe should be changed to allow it to search "https://web.archive.org/" for (& download) any videos that used to be at youtube's site, but which were later removed from there.

To give everybody a better idea of what such videos would look like, here is an example of one which youtube later removed from it's site.

Why do you want this feature?

I am requesting this feature to allow NewPipe to find & download videos that this requested feature can find & download.

I could inspect the element and get the full URL to the video, so downloading is possible, but adding it to Newpipe would be a very niche feature.

Why would it qualify as a nich feature? An archived copy of a youtube video should share that youtube URL's own page source code (I assume), so it would seem as if NewPipe should already be able to find & download those videos, but that NewPipe only needs to be changed to let it visit the "Internet archive" for that purpose.

Obviously, most youtube videos don't get archived (neither does most of the rest of the internet), but I'm making this request for 2 different reasons.

  1. The "Internet archive" has archived copies of (some) youtube videos. (Their URL's identify them as that.)
  2. IF a youtube video was archived at the "Internet archive" & then if youtube later removes it from their own website, the "Internet archive's" copy of that video becomes (usually) the only place to find it, & since it uses youtube's own website source code (I assume), only the ability to go to the "Internet archive" (& look for archived youtube videos there) should be needed to make this doable.

Anyway, I know that NewPipe is always getting bug fixes, & I'm not in a rush, so I can wait a while for this feature to be added.
