Application of 'The Clean Architecture' to this project's firmware

I am reading 'The Clean Architecture' by R.C. Martin aka Uncle Bob. He has also written an article (archived, copy) which contains the essence of the dependency rules and software layers.

Although an elaborate software architecture may not be necessary for the firmware of this project. I still would like to apply some of the principles of The Clean Architecture. It may be a good exercise for me to apply it on such a manageable software.

As discussed with @FiveTeethless on 2023-05-22, I will attempt to implement concepts of the Plug-In Architecture outlined by the article. I started to write some of my thoughts about this in the wiki. Please add your ideas as well directly to the wiki.
