how use the client section

i see for each UPS a section called client, how does it work?

it works directly with nut official client? or witch client i need to use and wich port i need to open on the container

It simply displays the client IP addresses attached to the UPS for monitoring. This can be useful to see if the monitoring client (99.99% of the time, it's upsmon) is attached to UPS correctly or not.

You don't need to configure anything extra on nut_webgui because the client list is reported by the NUT server itself.

if i understand correctly, in this section i need to see all the client that talk directly to the nut server?

i make nut_webui login to nut as admin
and as client i have:

• home assistant -> directly talk to nut Server
• a pc(with nut client) -> directly talk to nut Server
• nut_webui -> directly talk to nut Server (as admin)

but section of ups client are empty

all ups talk directly to nut and exposed on the net by nut server

No, not all of them based on how NUT itself works.

You can establish three different connection types on a NUT server:

• Attach a client to a UPS using MASTER/PRIMARY command to mark client as primary.
• Attach a client to a UPS using LOGIN/ATTACH command to mark client as secondary.
• Do not attach to anything and only observe the NUT server state (this is what nut_webgui and home assistant does).

The NUT server only lists primary and secondary clients, which dictate the server shutdown order when UPS battery drops to critical levels.

If no clients are visible, it means there's no upsmon setup configured for safe shutdown when the UPS battery is about to deplete or NUT server itself is not aware of them as primary/secondary client.

For upsmon, your config should look something like this:

/etc/nut/upsmon.conf

MONITOR your_ups_name@localhost 1 your_upsd_username your_upsd_password primary

# Other configs ...

and upsmon should be up and running (see systemctl status upsmon), then you should be able to see a client IP address on client tab.
