I was just writing almost identical code.

For older devices the "round" icon files also need to be changed. But the new files are webp type, so they can't just be copied over. But the manifest can be modified to use the old file name.

I am not sure what you mean with "round" icons. Do you mean ic_launcher_round? If so, wouldn't png work just fine?

Never mind, I was mixing up the xml files with the mipmaps. This should work with older devices as well.
