How to file a helpful issue

Qubes OS release

R4.1

Brief summary

Arch template build does not work

Steps to reproduce

Try to build the Arch template

Expected behavior

Build succeeds

Actual behavior

Build fails. I believe using an old base image is the culprit.

The lack of detail here doesnt help.

Honestly, the error messages I got were almost useless. It was as if the base image didn’t include the needed OpenPGP keys. I will attack an error log.

Since I successfully built templates at the end of September, I wonder if it is the use of a new base image (bootstrap from 2021-10-01) that is the issue.

Quite possibly

@DemiMarie : with the #7282 closed issue and the
7cfd553 commit, this issue is now closable, isn't it?

Can you build a template?

I checked, it failed but not for a GPG issue, the qubes-vm-repo package is too old in the 4.1 current repository:

:: Synchronizing package databases...
 qubes-r4.1-current downloading...
 core downloading...
 extra downloading...
 community downloading...
 multilib downloading...
 qubes downloading...
:: Starting full system upgrade...
warning: qubes-vm-repo: local (4.1.20-1) is newer than qubes-r4.1-current (4.1.11-1)
 there is nothing to do
  --> Installing mandatory qubes packages...
resolving dependencies...
:: There are 2 providers available for qubes-libvchan:
:: Repository qubes-r4.1-current
   1) qubes-libvchan-xen
:: Repository qubes
   2) qubes-libvchan-xen

Enter a number (default=1): warning: cannot resolve "python<3.10", a dependency of "qubes-vm-core"
warning: cannot resolve "qubes-vm-core", a dependency of "qubes-vm-dependencies"

The qubes-vm-repo package comes from the qubes-meta-packages component (source). If you agree with my analysis, can you ask to the build-bot to rebuild this component for the ArchLinux target?

I can’t, but @marmarek can :)

Now it's OK, I built an ArchLinux template.
For updating the building-archlinux-template guide with PR #182, I run all the build procedure and got a runnable template.

This issue seems to be resolved, isn't it? Just got here in a search for problems...
