We changed our name to PyCeas, the best of both ideas, it reflects our old name but slightly different with a C instead of S. |

Ahoy!
We would like to share some important updates about the future of PySeas. As you may know, PySeas has been our name since the start, and it's still a long way to finalize the project as finished. However, we've been considering a name change for a few key reasons, and we want your input to help us decide.
Why are we considering a new name?
We want to make it easier for the project to thrive long-term, even if the original maintainers step back. By transitioning to a unified organization, all parts of the project (Pygame GUI, and the command-line interface game, documentation, etc.) can live under one umbrella, making it simpler for the community to contribute and manage.
Our goal is to make the project as accessible as possible. To do that, we need a name that is available as a
PyPI packageand GitHub organization, so developers and players can easily install and interact with the game usingpip install <name>.While PySeas has been a great name, it turns out that it's already associated with a different open-source project focussed on maritime APIs. To avoid confusion and create a unique identity, we're looking for a name that still reflects the project's theme and goals.
The options:
After some brainstorming, we've come up with a few potential names. Here's the current shortlist:
A nod to Sea of Thieves, just as PySeas was originally intended to be.
A playful and pirate themed name, blending
Scallywaga nod to villainous or mischievous person/actionAnother nod to
Scallywag, keeping it short and Python-centric.Inspired by coastal exploration and discovery, but slightly generic and AI suggested.
A clever nod to Pisces, the zodiac sign of the fish, connecting the sea to the stars. The alternate spelling makes it unique while keeping its pronunciation and meaning intact. It's also my constellation. So the project will still be called PySeas but in different writing, my brother came up with it.
If you have ideas for alternative names, you can vote the last entry.
