In 2021 the blockchain in the network used for the tracking of network requests was extended to become a mechanism for value transfer. This introduced $XE, a coin used for value attribution within the network, operated as a layer 2 solution for Ethereum. $XE is used for the payment of services; for network staking; for the distribution of node yields; and for community governance. It is bridged to the $EDGE ERC-20 token within the Etheruem network.

Good evening everyone ![👋](https://discord.com/assets/df7ba0f4020ca70048a0226d1dfa73f6.svg)
1616

17-
We started the week ready to open up the new account system, allowing you to spin up Edge Servers in a matter of minutes, using XE for payment. Everything was set. But as often happens with the best laid plans, we suffered a little setback: some hardware at one of our partners that was powering the London zone of the Edge Network failed. For those of you who aren’t aware, we are experiencing a particularly intense heatwave here in the UK, and those increased temperatures led to multiple power supply units to fail. Over the course of a few days we monitored the situation and identified the hardware causing the issue, which was removed from the setup.
17+
This week was shorter than usual, as the team spent Monday doing whatever people do when they’re not building the next generation of network technologies (which is probably thinking about building the next generation of network technologies). We’ve had a great week working on integrating Edge DNS into the account system, and look ready for making it available next week.
1818

19-
As you can see, this led to some outages on the network as well, but the good news is that the network is built to recover from faults like this, and as soon as connectivity to the Stargate was restored, the network recovered automatically.
19+
<figure><img src="../../.gitbook/assets/Screenshot 2022-09-01 at 11.20.25.png" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>
2020

21-
Recently, we expanded the Gateway layer, and we’ll continue to expand both this layer along with the Stargate layer, adding more redundancy and making the network even more resilient to faults.
21+
We’re just working through final UI tweaks and testing before rolling it out, after which we’ll be straight onto the integration of CDN, which includes some updates to Stargates and Gateways along with synchronisation of configurations and the network, and the reporting of usage and subsequent billing. It’s super exciting to see and we can’t wait to see people self-onboarding onto CDN again.
2222

23-

23+
This week saw a single network deployment, with **Gateway v2.10.1-152** being deployed to mainnet, introducing improved metrics for request queues. This allows us to monitor timeouts within the network, of which there are two types: reply timeouts (yellow) are when a Host doesn’t respond within a specific period of time, after which the request will be sent to another Host; and request timeouts (green) are when no Host responds within a specific (longer) period of time, after which a service unavailable message is sent back to the client. See below:
2424

25-
On the back of the outage we have decided to advance our trusted partner programme, and will be adding a new region to Edge Servers. This will be completed next week. Our original plan was to make available the remaining capacity in the current Edge Servers region, based 20 miles outside of London. The additional trusted partner being bought online is located at a facility in London’s Docklands, which as some of you might know, is the most connected location in Europe.
25+
<figure><img src="../../.gitbook/assets/graph.png" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>
2626

27-
The new account system is fully ready to open up, and as soon as we have the new capacity in place, we’ll do so.
27+
Recently we’ve been reminding you that the stake migration window was closing at the end of August. It is now closed. Anyone who sent in a stake migration request before the window closed will be processed this month, but we ask that you reply swiftly to emails from the team so that we can process your request. Any requests yet to be processed by the end of September will not be processed. All unclaimed tokens will remain in the treasury. Please help us to help you get these stakes migrated as that will help us to focus on what matters most — building the Edge network.

I know some of you are excited to see it so here’s a sneak preview of what it looks like:

And that's it for this week my friends!

Meanwhile, the team is already hard at work implementing FIAT payment options. There will be both one-off and automatic top ups available using this method, with FIAT exchanged for XE at time of purchase, which will then be used for daily billing. Following delivery of the FIAT features, we’ll be integrating Edge DNS and Edge CDN into the account system. We’re pumped for what’s coming!
36-
37-
If you haven’t already seen it, Pod in the Edge community raised some great questions in a recent marketing thread, so definitely give that a read and add to the discussion if you like. You can find it here:

As you may know, some of the team are involved in the Mudas NFT project, and wow, some of the artwork that we saw this week was amazing. We can’t wait to be able to show you what we’ve been working on, but it’s almost as ![🔥](https://discord.com/assets/67069a13e006345ce28ecc581f2ed162.svg)as the UK right now. Certainly some of the most complex and beautiful digital art that we’ve seen.
42-
43-
Speaking of which, next week, owing to the forecasted high![🔥](https://discord.com/assets/67069a13e006345ce28ecc581f2ed162.svg) temperatures here in the UK, we’re having a slightly shorter week, with most of the team enjoying Monday & Tuesday away from their computers (and likely sitting in baths filled with ice cubes). We will still be around though, in the event of any issues, or in case anyone wants to chat about how awesome edge networking is ![😀](https://discord.com/assets/7c010dc6da25c012643ea22c1f002bb4.svg)
44-
45-
And that's about it for this week!
