In the color picker pane, having the current and previous colour next to each other would make a huge difference.
For instance, when you're trying to match values on different hues or making any subtle change to a color, this feature saves a lot of time, as you don't need to move your brush to your image and actually paint next to the color you want to compare.
Even when painting traditionally, it's common practice to hold the color on your brush right next to another color on your palette or the canvas, to help compare and analyze them quickly.
Examples from other programs:
GNU Image Manipulation Program does it well, with the colors clearly named and, most importantly, without any space or dividing line between them, but the color samples might be a bit too small
Pixly (Android) uses huge rectangles, this makes spotting subtle differences and judging color way easier. Don't ask me about the psychological principles behind this effect, but the bigger the area, the easier it is to assess color and predict how it's going to work when applied. But we can't take that much screen real state on the panel, I think.
Krita solves the panel space issue with floating temporary squares, which I think would fit Pixelorama's UI. But note that Krita updates the old sample every time you pick a new color, so the original color you wanted to have for comparison disappears. Also, there's no need for the samples to be that small.
Feature request
So, my suggestion is a color picker that behaves like GNUimp does but with floating samples like Krita and, if possible, on larger areas than those two examples.
In any case, Pixelorama is doing great, thanks for developing it!
