Some members of the Hive teams met with @simonwex and me at the end of May to discuss the mechanisms we're currently using to track Hive member engagement.

We're currently tracking engagement manually by looking at Slack and listserv activity, and measuring event attendance and satisfaction through surveys.

This is currently taking a lot of staff time, so we'd like to find automated solutions. Those solutions might include:

  • see if we can track listserv activity on Mozilla listservs
  • move Slack communities to chat.mozillafoundation.org and iterate on the metrics dashboard (Hive NYC is piloting this now)

Ideally, the metrics we gather from Hive contribute toward our understanding of the MLN Network Strength KPI, in addition to providing insights for Hive program staff.

cc @arlissc to provide insights on how we should approach measuring Hive Engagement and how it fits in with our MLN-wide metrics goals

@hannahkane thanks for opening this ticket. I wanted to share some data analysis that has come out of a research partnership here in Chicago. Super drafty and early-stage, but illustrative.
