Author: Nick Mudge <nick@mokens.io>
Era Name: Believe
Status: draft
Start Date: 1 April 2019
Mint Price: 0.4 ETH
Proposal
I propose that the #CryptoWinter collection closes on 31 March 2019 and that the Believe collection opens on 1 April 2019.
A closed collection is one that does not have any more mokens added to it. So after 31 March 2019 there will be no more #CryptoWinter mokens created. Note that it is possible for someone to buy an existing #CryptoWinter moken after the collection closes and change what it is about if it results in a more valuable moken.
The proposed mint price for Believe mokens is 0.4 ETH.
Rational
During the current era or collection, #CryptoWinter, the purpose of the mokens project was clarified. The purpose is to create and trade valuable mokens. With emphasis on valuable.
The #CryptoWinter collection has the lowest mint price, 0.001 ETH.
During the current and the previous era/collection many low value mokens were created and some had to be changed because they violated trademarks or copyrights or publicity right. This lead to the implementation and release of moderation functionality. Info about legal considerations is in this blog post: https://medium.com/mokens/what-mokens-did-and-how-it-suddenly-changed-1db34c765c66
It seems clear that a low mint price does not help create valuable mokens. It has also been noticed that very few #CryptoWinter mokens have been put on sale on OpenSea or emoon. Perhaps a low mint price does not motivate people to sell their mokens.
Perhaps a significantly higher mint price may motivate people to create higher value, higher quality mokens that they put on sale so they can recover their cost and earn. Part of the purpose of mokens is trading.
Perhaps a significantly higher mint price may reduce the number of low quality moken submissions and ones that violate intellectual property rights, and so reduce the amount of moderation that is needed.
If the mint price becomes 0.4 ETH it is not true that it costs that much to have a moken. There are currently mokens for sale on OpenSea for less than that. And it is possible to rename or change what a moken is about if you can change it into something better and you own it. See the about webpage about this: https://mokens.io/about/upgrade
So a higher mint price encourages people to buy existing mokens and to change them into something more valuable. That aligns with the purpose of mokens.
Another point is that a higher mint price is needed to help finance the ongoing development of mokens.io.
I am interested in feedback about this proposal.

This blog post covers some ideas of what makes a moken valuable: https://medium.com/mokens/what-mokens-did-and-how-it-suddenly-changed-1db34c765c66
