Reference Applications are standalone applications that demonstrate specific features or capabilities of Microchip's 32-bit SAM and PIC® microcontroller (MCU) and microprocessor (MPU) devices. These applications are developed using Microchip's 32-bit SAM and PIC® MCU/MPU development boards and kits.
The typical types of Reference Applications include:
- Feature-rich applications that integrate multiple technologies such as USB, TCP/IP, Wireless, Security, Low Power, RTOS, etc.
 - Applications demonstrating specific MCU/MPU capabilities, such as Low Power applications.
 - Applications showcasing the capabilities of Microchip's MCU/MPU development boards and kits (e.g., Curiosity, Nano), which enable hardware expansion through mikroBUS Click or Xplained Pro extensions.
 - Getting Started applications designed to introduce users to MCU/MPU products. These applications demonstrate the use of the MPLAB Harmony 3 framework with the MCC UI, highlighting commonly used peripheral features.
