Partial dislocation is an important concept in the dislocation glide. Due to the movement of the atoms on (slip) plane relative to other (slip) plane, the Burgers vector changes to favor the lowest energy. The change of Burgers vector is due to the dissociation of Burgers vector of perfect dislocation to the Burgers vector of partial dislocation.
Thus, we need to define the concept of partial dislocation.
