there is no way to know if the user did not decide to select a file, there is also no way to set files to null, and have the file cleared

Can you please break down the behaviour you described above?

ok, first off, if the user clicks on the select media icon, and the gallery of media appears, but the user decides not to select anything and proceeds to cancel the whole operation, there is no event that is triggered which indicates that the user canceled the operation, so that devs could capitalize on that and act accordinly.

secondly, there is no way to programmatically set files to null, and have the input cleared.
