Hi, I am working on a task where I need to retrieve all diagnoses for each patient and compile them into a list, such as: [D1, D2, D3, …]. I noticed that in the "diagnoses_icd" table, there is a field named SEQ_NUM. The official description states: SEQ_NUM provides the order in which the ICD diagnoses relate to the patient. ICD diagnoses are ordered by priority—and the order does have an impact on the reimbursement for treatment.
I am wondering if there is a certain priority relationship among different diagnoses. For example, does SEQ_NUM = 1 indicate the highest priority, which could be understood as the "primary diagnosis," while other diagnoses with SEQ_NUM > 1 are considered "secondary diagnoses"? Could they be categorized into these two groups? Alternatively, does it follow a decreasing priority order, where diagnoses with smaller SEQ_NUM values have higher priority than those with larger SEQ_NUM values?
I want to know whether SEQ_NUM truly reflects this kind of priority effect.
