Description not showing, make view type selectable on overview pages

Is there any way to get the Description text to display in any of the link view options? I have tried “list with many details” “list with few details” and “cards with less details”.

There also doesn’t seem to be a consistent way to get to the expanded link entry that does show the Description field

Could I also suggest a way of switching between “list with many details” “list with few details” and “cards with less details” on the page, rather than just from within user/site settings?
