Converts from Galactic coordinates (longitude, latitude) to observed coordinates (Altitude, Zenith angle). Altitude angle is also printed for those who prefer 'Altitude' over 'Zenith angle'. The 'apparent' Galactic longitude, latitude coordinates (resulting from atmospheric affects on the light being observed) are also provided.
REQUIRED OPTIONS
| Long form | short | Description |
|---|---|---|
| --longitude | -X | Observer longitude (degrees, East-positive) |
| --latitude | -Y | Observer latitude (degrees) |
| --glon | -L | Galactic longitude (degrees) |
| --glat | -B | Galactic latitude (degrees) |
ADDITIONAL OPTIONS:
| Long form | Short | Description |
|---|---|---|
| --help, | -h | Prints help text |
| --juliandate | -j | Julian Date for query (default is current time) |
| --elevation | -e | Observer elevation (meters above sea-level, default=0.000000) |
| --humidity | -r | Observer's relative humidity (0-1, default=0.000000) |
| --pressure | -p | Observer's atmospheric pressure (hPa, default=1013.250000) |
| --temperature | -t | Observer's temperature (degrees Celsius, default=15.050000) |
| --wavelength | -w | Wavelength of light being observed (micrometers, default=0.5) |
| --dut1 | -d | UT1-UTC (default=0) |
| --xpolar | -x | x-polar motion (default=0, best to leave alone) |
| --ypolar | -y | y-polar motion (default=0, best to leave alone) |
The following is an example for getting the observed position of the Crab nebula as observed in Times Square in New York City:
Input
gal2obs -L 184.5518 -B -5.7904 -X -73.9851 -Y 40.7589
