AtariVox and SaveKey

Stephen Illingworth edited this page Apr 7, 2022 · 3 revisions

The AtariVox and SaveKey are two closely related peripherals that are optionally inserted into one of the console's player ports (usually the right player).

The SaveKey is used to store state information between power cycles of a game ROM. That is to say, high scores or saved games. In the Gopher2600 emulator, the savekey file is saved to the emulator's Configuration Directory.

Currently, Gopher2600 only works with a single savekey file at a time. Future development will allow the savekey file to be selectable.

The AtariVox includes all the functionality of the SaveKey and also adds a voice synthesis ability. In Gopher2600, voice synthesis is provided by an external program. Currently, only the Festival Speech Synthesis System is supported.

Festival Installation

The Festival Speech Synthesis System must be installed manually by you or the administrator for your computer. The installation process depends on which operating system your computer is running.

Debian Linux

sudo apt-get install festival
