Looks like chef has built-in support for manipulating files. This could maybe replace our custom conf file code.
chef-apply can run one cookbook, might be worth looking into for debugging/testing and running things like our security cookbook. More info.
built-in libraries might save us some work in places.
It might also be worth exploring PyChef to see if we can use it in places.
