Yet another great job by the team! And I think ppl should calm down with the issue posting whenever such a problem occurs lol, they had to close new dupe issues pretty much daily |

New to the app, after some hurdles getting my lists in, I really love this app. But a question. Running 0.23.15beta, so current. Neither the Most Popular nor Trending options in left menu function. I get messages about "SyntaxError: Failed to execute 'json' on 'Response': Unexpected end of JSON input" on most popular and "TypeError: t.getTrending is not a function" on the other. Seems to throw messages on both local and invidious api. Is this expected or should I log it as an issue? I don't want to plug up issues if it's known or temporary. |

Hi @cryptonym64 nice to hear that you love the app. About Invidious and Most Popular page: FreeTube needs to have API access to retrieve information Public Invidious instances have disabled their API access because its getting abused and IP blocked The only viable way to use Invidious as a fallback is to host a private instance. Lastly to get rid of the Invidious related errors, Disable fallback to Invidious in the General Settings About the Trending page:

That's a mix of good and not so good news but understandable. What would be the main benefit of a private invidious? Isn't it mainly to obfuscate the user? As to hurdles... The largest was getting my existing play lists out of yt and in. I had my full takeout with CSVs, but when I navigate to the relevant folder no files were shown to choose. I found a post that had me instead use a multi select for yt plugin in chrome to create new lists that I then made unlisted and then copied that list url into the app. That brings up the list. Click on the title of that to get to a screen where you then click...the copy button (no save option) to get to the save screen. A bit of a twisted path there when I had the csv already. I also couldn't get my history to import, just wasn't showing any file. I noticed the word json somewhere and realized it was csv on takeout. Went back to takeout and history was able to be exported in json and then it showed up. That would be good to mention in instructions. But for some reason all the other types in takeout default only to csv and are locked on that with a greyed chooser. Did Google drop json options and isthat giving import troubles on importing lists??? |

We don't support importing playlists from Google Takeout because the CSVs that they provide are pretty useless, as the only information about the videos that is included in the CSVs is the video ID and the timestamp of when the video was added to the playlist. If it at least had the video title we could create placeholder playlist entries and populate the information the first time you watch the video, but with only the video ID it would mean mass-fetching the video info for every single video at the time of the import, which considering you can already get bot blocked by YouTube just by watching videos normally in FreeTube spamming requests for video information really doesn't seem like a good idea. |

I had heard of the bot issue before and thought the "workaround" used by many systems is a burner YT account to log on via Oauth2? Is that no longer effective, or just not in this app? Is the optimal config to hide trending and most popular on menu, and set the app to use invidious to proxy playback? Or do public invidious get bot blocked too much to be useful? |
