In Address Book window, Add Exchange Contact Folder dialog successfully finds contact folder on Office365, but after pressing Save, folder does not appear under Address Books in left pane. I can find nothing unusual in log files.

Just to be 100% sure that this is no red herring, maybe you better wait until the Office365 issues are resolved and verify again. https://twitter.com/MSFT365Status/status/1088434889014370304

I discovered this add-on yesterday:

https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-us/thunderbird/addon/owl-for-exchange/

I'm not on O365 yet so haven't been able to test it but it might help here.

Same thing happens for me - I find it necessary to have the contacts available.. is there anything I can do to help analyzing the issue?

For those of you who are experiencing this, can you try to compose an email to a user who should be discoverable in one of those address books? It seems to me that even though I can't see the address books as added, the "to" field will auto-complete to users in my O365 GAL.

Update:
I was using 5.0.0-alpha1 in the previous comment. I just cloned and built the 5.0.0-alpha3 branch, and this issue is no longer present. I can see my O365 GAL.

I'm using the 5.0.0-alpha2 and I have neither the addressbook nor the auto-completion. And basically the missing auto-completion is the most important thing to me - I just don't use the addressbook but I thought it could be the cause for the missing auto-complete.

I can confirm that the contacts show up in Address Books with 5.0.0-alpha3. However, email address autocomplete does not seem to be working for Exchange contacts, and the contact search does not seem to find contacts in the Exchange folder.

Autocomplete should have been improved in #223 . Is this not working?

IIRC to use the autocomplete feature you need to check the Global Address List box in address book settings.

I use Thunderbird 60 with 5.0.0-alpha3 on Ubuntu 18.04.
Auto-completion works in the composer window.

But in the address book itself under the GAL entry, I have no contacts visible. Only when I search for contacts with a keyword via the search box in the address book toolbar, matching contacts show up. Matching is, when a contacts first or last name starts with the search string.

So, for example, you open the address book and click on the GAL entry: -> empty list. Then type "mi" into the search box and hit enter. -> A list with Michaels and Millers (and other names starting with "mi") appears.
Clear the search box and hit enter, and the contact list is empty again.

My expectation is to see all Outlook contacts per default and use the search box only as a filter mechanism. This is, how it works with personal/collected contacts.

I can see the contacts in the list but they do not show up in auto-completion nor can I search for them in the Address Book. This is with or without the Global Address List box checked.

I'm trynig to add GAL contacts on 5.0.0-beta1 and it seems the GAL checkbox has no effect on what folders are shown in browse. I've tried selecting both / and /GAL Contacts, but it both just turns out empty, am i missing something?
