Notice the height of each item in Xcode is 22px while in CodeEdit it is 28. We need to use a more compact item size to match. This will be useful in large projects. This should also be a setting so that the user could choose list item density across the app (will affect more than just the project navigator). The default should be compact.

Is the font size right, so just a padding issue of the Text?

I investigated this a little and it does not seem that this can be changed in SwiftUI.

tried:

• applying negative padding
• setting a fixed height
• changing font and icon size down

@DanKlaver15 In system preferences in general, when the sidebar icon size is set to medium, each sidebar list item should have a height of 22pt.
When it is set to small, they should be 20pt tall.
When it is set to large, they should be 24pt tall.

Spacing wise, they seem to be in line with every other Apple app except Xcode (Screenshot above compares CodeEdit with Finder and XCode). Presumably, Xcode is using a completely custom sidebar which allows it to use customized padding and font sizings. Here's a 1:1 comparison between the fonts (Left is Finder and right is CodeEdit):

CodeEdit currently respects the Sidebar icon size chosen in System Preferences out of the box (which we get for free from macOS because we're using .listStyle(.sidebar)). I'm guessing fixing this issue and adding custom behavior (Compact, Standard and Larger Spacing options) would need us to build a fully custom sidebar à la Xcode.
