Keeping track of where things have been

I'm using closure_tree to track the location of objects.

I also need the ability to see where objects have been in the past and not just where they are now.

Would there be a nice way of doing that using closure_tree? If the rows in the __hierarchies table were flagged as deleted then this might be easily possible.
