PR #1377 introduces a better way for interacting with user object permissions and roles. It maintains legacy compatibility, but the rest of the code base should still be refactored to provide forward mobility.

@DawoudIO I don't think this is addressed in 2.8.6. Moving to on-deck, as it's valuable, but not in 2.8.6 ;-)

@DAcodedBEAT: Can you please explain better what is needed for this issue to be resolved? Otherwise I think this should be closed.
