The spikes in deaths in New York City on October 21, 2022 (201 deaths) and October 26, 2022 (441 deaths) were due to death certificate review from 2020-2022. This was communicated to us via their health department. The department has completed their review and we do not expect additional backlogged deaths to be published in the coming days.
Update on October 28, 2022
The Health Department uploaded historical probable deaths among NYC residents recently reported from other jurisdictions. These were cases where COVID was listed on the death certificate but without a corresponding positive lab and took place in 2020, 2021, and early 2022.
