Anyone daily driving doWM?

I was wondering if anyone who reads this (hopefully more than zero 😂) uses doWM, if so, it would be really cool if you could share a screenshot! If I think it looks good enough, it may even make it on to the screenshots section of the readme or website! Thanks in advance!

I set it up in a VM since I was curious how small an arch install I could get (I think it was 300 packages). I was a little confused how everything was to be set up since I've only ever used huge environments like KDE. But I got it working along with polybar and picom.

I'm gonna look into more applications but I love the simplicity and configuration so far of doWM. Very similar to alacrity

Thank you for the comment! I am thinking of making a guide to starting with doWM, although I already have install and configuration guide, it doesn't really explain what you should do after that, I think I should make a guide about how to set it up with a simple but daily drivable setup, thanks!

I am now using it as a replacement for DWM.
My setup is not fancy at all, just a web browser and a terminal (with tmux/neovim) but this is what makes me productive :-)

Wow, thank you! When I first started making this project I had hopes that it would become a good alternative to dwm, and now I can see that it is so thank you, I am also glad that you are productive with it aswell since that is one of the biggest reasons to use a window manager.

Hi. I tried to set up this following the installation part of the guide, but now I am a little bit lost what to do next. Should I run autostart.sh? It retruns a bunch 'command not found'. I use Ubuntu 24. Also the warning otherwise you could be left in the black with no way to escape! is a little bit scary (,,•᷄‎ࡇ•᷅ ,,).

Yes, I ran a few issues as well on the first install. The instructions and defaults could be a little clearer. Unfortunately, I believe default Ubuntu is Wayland only now. So this means you will need to install the xorg and xinit packages and start doWM through GDM (by moving the respective desktop file).

DoWM follows the configuration style of DWM where nothing is configured by default. It can be a little scary at first but it makes for extreme customizability. Worst case if you mess up, you have to switch to a different TTY and kill DoWM

@Naniqm as the other reply said, after install and following the other commands to copy the config and make auto start.sh executable, as long as you have a greeter (for example GDM or SDDM) installed as well as xorg and xorg-server, it should show up as an option to boot into called doWM. If from a tty, you can simply type doWM normally and that would work or you could get xinit to run doWM. I have also changed the warning because it did make it sound worse than it is because it is just the fact that your commands that run on start won't be run. If you have any problems installing, just ask and I will be able to help you, San if you have got it to work and have any questions.

I've been a long time i3wm-user but i3 is not available on my work PC anymore so I've been looking for a light-weight alternative. I've been using doWM (+polybar) since a week or so and it's very usable for me. Of course, I miss a few minor things (the scratch pad, more flexible key bindings, e.g. without mod key), but I can already work with it very well.
