USBMOUNT – EQmod USB-C Converter for Skywatcher Mounts

Easily unlock advanced features of your Skywatcher mount—connect it directly to your computer and control it with popular astronomy software. The AMUSBMOUNT (AMUSBMOUNT01) offers a reliable, plug-and-play USB-C to RJ45 EQmod connection, streamlining your astrophotography or observation workflow.

Overview

Skywatcher mounts are renowned among amateur astronomers for their excellent value and reliability. GoTo models typically include a hand controller, allowing basic object finding and service operations. By replacing the hand controller with USBMOUNT, you can leverage advanced computer control, automation, and precision tracking via EQmod-compatible software.

Features

  • Modern USB-C interface: Use standard USB-C cables (e.g. from your smartphone).
  • Plug & Play: Native support for Linux and Windows systems.
  • Custom connectors: Flexible installation—mount the converter close to your telescope, or keep it near your computer.
  • Four status LEDs: Instantly check power and data flow.
  • Robust build: Reliable operation even during long, demanding sessions.
  • Compatible with top software: Stellarium, KStars/INDI/Ekos, ASCOM, RTS2 and more.

How to Use

Connection

  1. To computer: Connect AMUSBMOUNT to your computer using a USB-C cable. The PC (pwr) LED will light up.

Tip: Use a high-quality cable to ensure reliable operation.

  2. To mount: Use the RJ45 connector and either the original hand controller cable or a standard (straight, preferably shielded) Ethernet cable. The MOUNT (pwr) LED confirms a successful connection.

The mount must be powered and switched on.

Mounting

  • Recommended installation: Use the included 3M DualLock Reclosable Fastener for secure, vibration-resistant mounting.
  • Preparation: Clean (degrease) the surface before attaching the fastener and press firmly for best results.
  • Long distance operation: For longer distances, use a longer RJ45 (Ethernet) cable between the mount and converter. Avoid USB-C cables longer than 5m for best reliability.

LED Indicators

  • Power LEDs (Red): Show power status for the computer and mount.
  • Data LEDs (Orange): Show data transfer directions (TX = PC to mount, RX = mount to PC).
