AEM Marketo integration

We have a proxy setup on AEM, and are trying to establish connectivity between AEM and Marketo based in this guide: https://adobe-consulting-services.github.io/acs-aem-commons/features/marketo-form/index.html

When we test connectivity in AEM the connection fails, however if we test directly to Marketo it is success.
We think that its the proxy thats causing the issue, can this connection be configured using a proxy and if so is there ant configuration needed to allow this or do we need to bypass the proxy for this connection?
